The COVID-19 Coronavirus has been getting in the way of a lot of events and other things lately, and there seems to be no end in sight for the time being. Unfortunately this means the upcoming PlayStation 5, and/or the equally anticipated Xbox Series X, might very well face a serious delay due to the spread of the Coronavirus. These potential delays come from a new report made by DFC Intelligence.
The DFC Intelligence is an experienced video game industry analyst and research firm that’s been around for over 25 years. As such, they were able to make some educated guesses regarding how the Coronavirus might impact the video game industry’s upcoming console launches. And, needless to say, they’re not too positive.
As explained by the DFC, via WCCFTech, it seems that both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X each have “a strong likelihood one or both systems will not make a 2020 launch.” Unfortunately for gamers, this news does not get any better. In fact, it gets much worse from an economic standpoint. “If the systems do launch, supply will likely be constrained and initial pricing could be higher than expected.”
In fact, if you’re hopeful that things could go back to normal on the possibility that the Coronavirus gets put under control, you might be let down. The DFC went on to explain that “even if the situation clears up in a few weeks, the ability to manufacture and release a high-end new game system has already been severely impacted.”
Unfortunately things are a bit wild right now while everyone gets the Coronavirus pandemic stabilized. In the meantime, even without next generation consoles, gamers will have plenty of free time to play as self-quarantine continues to be the norm. Hopefully we’ll find out soon what exactly will happen with the Holiday 2020 launches for both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and whether or not the Coronavirus will effect them.
