Jason Blum consistently appears to be one of the busiest film producers in Hollywood, with what appears to be a nonstop string of projects either in development or already released in theaters. Much of his success came from the release of Paranormal Activity, which ultimately went on to spawn a decently sized franchise of its own. In recent years, however, the series has seen something of a hiatus. Of course, like most other horror franchises, Paranormal Activity won’t be staying dead for long – as Paranormal Activity 7 is currently in development and Jason Blum has given an update.
While speaking about the upcoming movie to Evolution of Horror Podcast, Jason Blum said:
“We are doing a new Paranormal Activity, we have Chris Landon…he’s coming up with Paranormal Activity 7,” Blum explained while also emphasizing that Paranormal Activity 7 is not the title of the movie but that it’s the seventh Paranormal Activity.
While not much has been revealed about the upcoming sequel, some fans have been curious if the movie would even retain its found footage roots considering the hype for such a subgenre has died down in recent years. As it turns out, Blum isn’t even sure if it will be found footage or not. Here’s what he explained to Bloody-Disgusting:
“The answer is, I don’t know. I guess we’re about to find out, but I don’t know. I don’t know. I don’t know,” Jason Blum admits. “It’s something that we’re talking about, but I don’t know what it’s going to wind up being.”
He did however reveal that they’re currently writing the treatment for Paranormal Activity 7.
“We’re writing the treatment [right now],” Blum explains. “That’s it.”
Hopefully we learn more about the film’s plot and how it will be presented soon. He did, however, reveal that the budget will be pretty large compared to past installments.
“It’s not going to be ten thousand dollars. It might be ten million dollars. I don’t know how much it’s going to be but it’s not going to be ten thousand dollars,” Blum says.
The currently untitled Paranormal Activity 7, should be getting a proper title closer to its release date, will hit theaters on March 19, 2021.
