Everyone has been interested in the newest entry in the Saw franchise, especially when you consider the surprising involvement that Chris Rock has with the new attempt to reboot the series. Another good reason for the high interest in the new film, is that very little has been known about Spiral: From the Book of Saw. In fact, fans weren’t even sure that Spiral would be the true title until the trailer finally dropped. And although the new footage did reveal some interesting tidbits regarding the upcoming horror film, there still remains plenty of information that fans are just dying to find out. But a new synopsis released for Spiral: From the Book of Saw might just have the information fans need.
Below is the synopsis for Spiral: From the Book of Saw as released by Lionsgate with the latest trailer for the film. Read on to see how it connects with the older films of the franchise, as pointed out by ScreenRant.
“A sadistic mastermind unleashes a twisted form of justice in Spiral, the terrifying new chapter from the book of Saw. Working in the shadow of an esteemed police veteran (Samuel L. Jackson), brash Detective Ezekiel “Zeke” Banks (Chris Rock) and his rookie partner (Max Minghella) take charge of a grisly investigation into murders that are eerily reminiscent of the city’s gruesome past. Unwittingly entrapped in a deepening mystery, Zeke finds himself at the center of the killer’s morbid game.”
It’s worth noting that the synopsis mentions the new murders are “reminiscent of the city’s gruesome past,” which definitely indicates a strong connection with the past Saw films. And that means Spiral is indeed a direct successor to the original Saw storyline that remained so popular during the early 2000’s.
Of course, what connections this new film will have to those before it is still yet to be seen. It’s definitely become more difficult to tie things back with original killer John Kramer as time has gone on, so in what way this new killer will be influenced is definitely going to be a surprise. And given how wonderfully demented and shocking some of the twists with these Saw films tend to be, it’ll no doubt be in Spiral’s favor.
One thing is for sure though, and after having read the synopsis, it’s that Spiral: From the Book of Saw will be a fantastic window back into that horrific world of life, death, and the vicious games in between.
