With Captain America exiting the MCU after his emotional finale in Avengers: Endgame, many fans wondered what the future would hold for his two best friends Buck “The Winter Soldier” Barnes and Sam “The Falcon” Wilson. With the announcement of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier premiering on Disney+ this year, many have been excited about the potential of the two “frenemies” teaming up together while getting their first chance to truly take the spotlight.
After being teased in Marvel’s big Super Bowl TV Spot, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier storyline has finally been revealed. Check it out along with the trailer if you have not seen it yet:
“Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, Sam Wilson/Falcon and Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier team up in a global adventure that tests their abilities — and their patience — in Marvel Studios’ The Falcon and The Winter Soldier,” “The all-new series is directed by Kari Skogland; Malcolm Spellman is the head writer. Debuts on Disney+ this fall.”
While the premise may not give away much specifics, the trailer did reveal the return of Daniel Bruhl’s villainous Baron Zemo, who played a crucial role in spurning a divide in the Avengers in Captain America: Civil War. I honestly think Bruhl’s character was one of the more underrated MCU villains, as he was effectively cold and calculated while posing an intriguing intellectual threat to his foes.
As far as The Falcon and the Winter Soldier goes, I am very excited to see what this series brings to the table. Both Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie are wonderfully charismatic actors, but neither actor has had the screentime to establish a fully-developed character. It will be fun to see these two grow together onscreen, as well as seeing Sam take on the Captain America mantle from Steve Rogers.
