Original ‘Silent Hill’ Director Working On Another Movie Sequel

    By Jacob DresslerFebruary 2, 2020
    Silent Hill Movie

The Silent Hill franchise, although in a bit of a hiatus lately, has continued to leave its mark on pop culture. Aside from the unfortunately cancelled Silent Hills game still influencing a variety of new horror games, there have been rumors that new games in the series are in development. And now it looks like the Silent Hill movie franchise is coming back as well – as French director Christophe Gans recently revealed.

As explained in a new interview with Allocine, it appears that he really is getting to work on a new Silent Hill movie. And that’s enough to get any fan of the video game/movie franchise excited to return back to that strange and haunting little town. Here’s what Christophe Gans said specifically:

“The project will always be anchored in this atmosphere of a small American town, ravaged by Puritanism. I think it’s time to make a new one.”

The Silent Hill film franchise is something that comes and goes about every decade at this rate. The first installment was released in 2006, and was actually directed by the aforementioned Christophe Gans. While his visuals were praised, the story was not.

And the criticism only got worse with its 2012 sequel Silent Hill: Revelations. Of course, Gans wasn’t involved with Revelation, so it’ll be interesting to see what his new take on a new Silent Hill movie almost two decades later could be. Especially with enough feedback to make sure he tells the right story this time.

Hopefully the franchise continues to move forward and we begin to see actual progress instead of just talk. It really will be something to take audiences back to Silent Hill with both modern gaming and filmmaking. Hopefully we learn more about this new movie attempt and the rumored games in the near future. After all, with Resident Evil and the like making a comeback, it’d be nice for Silent Hill to do the same.
