One of the more bizarre viral sensations this month has been Gwyneth Paltrow’s latest product under her Goop banner, which happens to a candle named “This Smells Like My Vagina”. The candle has become a popular trending topic due to the concept of smelling like Gwyneth Paltrow’s vagina, a subject that was even recently brought up to Martha Stewart who essentially scoffed at the idea. Now Gwyneth Paltrow has opened up a little more about the candle and its origin.
Gwyneth Paltrow recently appeared on Late Night with Seth Meyers, and she explained all sorts of interesting tidbits about the candle with not only its origin but also what the product means to her personally. Here’s what she stated:
“Wow. It’s a candle and it’s called ‘This Smells Like My Vagina,” Paltrow laughed. “So, it sort of started as a joke. I was with the nose Douglas Little for his brand, Heretic, and we were kind of messing around and I smelled this beautiful thing, and I was like, ‘This smells like my vagina.’ I was kidding, obviously.”
After joking about coming up with the idea while under the influence of mushrooms, she continued revealing the origin.
“So, then it actually became kind of a funny thing where it was A) Really funny to us, but also a little bit punk rock. You know what I mean? I think women, a lot of us have grown up feeling certain degrees of shame around our body or whatever. So this is just a little bit of, you know, subversive candle for all of us out there.”
It seems she may have a valid point, as the vagina scented candle actually did sell out on her website. While the product will likely be back in stock sooner rather than later, the candle has certainly made its mark thus far in 2020 when it comes to internet pop culture.
