Unfortunately for fans of the Netflix series Mindhunter, it looks like we may not be getting a Season 3 after all. While there is no official cancelation, there’s been a new report that Netflix released the cast from their contracts last month. While this may look like the series has found an untimely death, again, there has been no official cancelation.
In fact, according to Deadline, there’s actually still the possibility for Mindhunter to be revisited in the future. Here’s what Netflix stated to them:
“David is focused on directing his first Netflix film Mank and on producing the second season of Love, Death and Robots,” a Netflix spokesperson revealed. “He may revisit Mindhunter again in the future, but in the meantime felt it wasn’t fair to the actors to hold them from seeking other work while he was exploring new work of his own.”
It certainly makes sense, as we’d heard previously that David Fincher was stepping away from Mindhunter for awhile. And with another season of Love, Death and Robots on the way, it makes sense for the even longer delay.
While we don’t know if and when Mindhunter could return for a third season, the door is at least still open. So perhaps fans of the series still have their chance at getting a third season once David Fincher’s schedule clears up and everything potentially falls into place. After all, if Netflix and David Fincher can properly renegotiate a third season, then there is all the possibility in the world that the original cast can return for the series. Let’s hope things work out and that it can actually happen.
