Comic book fans have always fantasized about becoming the heroes they’ve read about for decades. Then, with the influx of comic book movies taking over Hollywood, and the rapid progression of the cosplay community, more and more fans have the ability to become their heroes. And, while the fantasy of having their powers and abilities may never come to fruition, building their costumes as accurately as possible gives the wearer a wonderful and amazing feeling. But, some iconic characters are harder to pull off. Case in point; Iron Man. His technologically advanced suits of armor are beyond the realms of reality right now, but that didn’t stop one fan. And now, his movie accurate armor is going viral.
Brazilian cosplayer, Caio Deepk Cesar, took costuming to a new level by building his Iron Man Mark 85 armor, complete with functional helmet and lighting rig. The 3d printed costume looks straight off the silver screen, and his Instagram post has garnered a massive upvote over on Reddit.
As you look at his post, it’s hard not to be in awe of his work. Iron Man cosplays are incredibly difficult, as building the armor tends to be bulkier than what we see in the movies, heavy, and hard to craft. And the movement aspect is also a pain, and is usually very limited. Cesar seemingly found solutions to these issues, with lightweight 3d printed pieces, and better joint manipulation points. And, even with scaling back the bulkiness of the armor, he was still able to install a lighting rig to give the arc reactor and ports their proper glowing effect.
Cosplay has definitely grown in talent, ability, and community over the last couple of years. Go to any convention and you will see some of the coolest costumes and characters that seemingly jump right off the page or screen. You may even see some cosplayers pull off better looks than some movies, you never know.
