The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been a phenom in the world of filmmaking. Doing something that had never even been attempted before, Marvel was able to create an interwoven overarching storyline throughout 23 films over a decade. And, as the story progressed and headed to it’s ultimate climax, the stories became darker and as foreboding as the impending doom of the ‘big bad’ that all of our heroes had to face. The studio introduces us to a slew of characters that have become emboldened in cinema as icons. Every fan has their favorite, or favorites, and we all constantly debate our viewpoints as to who is the best. And the godfather of the MCU, Marvel Studios head, Kevin Feige, even has something to say on that matter.
During a talk at New York Film Academy, Feige offered up his take on how the best character in the MCU might be.
“I always equate that to, I have two kids, people go, ‘Which one’s your favorite?’ That doesn’t work. Usually the answer to that question is whatever I’m working on now and whatever is encompassing the majority of my time or brain space but, because I’m still nostalgic off of Endgame and literally can’t believe that I’m talking to you in an era where I have finished the Infinity Saga and have done our 22, 23 counting Far From Home, movies, in Infinity Saga and brought that to a close… so I’m nostalgic for Iron Man from where it started and where it finished.”
While he does treat the question a bit politically, like someone avoiding a direct answer so as not to offend anyone, he does have a good answer with Iron Man. Robert Downey Jr.’s performance as Tony Stark will be revered by fans for ages, and the MCU all started with Iron Man. He also had an amazing and fully developed Hero’s Journey, ending in his ultimate sacrifice to save the universe.
