Most Stephen King and horror fans are perhaps already familiar with Stephen King’s iconic vampire novel ‘Salem’s Lot. The book has since become the inspiration for a variety of adaptations, including two miniseries and an upcoming theatrical film. It also served as inspiration for one of the locations in the Hulu series Castle Rock. What some fans may not be familiar with, however, is a short story published by King titled Jerusalem’s Lot which takes place more than a century before ‘Salem’s Lot.
As it turns out, that short story is now becoming the basis for an all new television series set to premiere on Epix. As revealed by Deadline, the series is set to star actor Adrien Brody in the lead role as Captain Charles Boone.
Here’s a synopsis for the series, which will be set in the 1850s and “follows Captain Charles Boone (Brody), who relocates his family of three children to his ancestral home in the small, seemingly sleepy town of Preacher’s Corners, Maine after his wife dies at sea. However, Charles will soon have to confront the secrets of his family’s sordid history, and fight to end the darkness that has plagued the Boones for generations.”
“This series is an intense, absolutely terrifying reimagining of classic gothic horror,” Epix president Michael Wright shared in a statement. “We can’t wait to work with the exceptional team of Donald De Line and Jason and Peter Filardi, along with our phenomenal lead actor, Adrien Brody…and of course, when it comes to horror, it doesn’t get any better or more masterful than Stephen King.”
Stephen King adaptations are in a popular demand at the moment, but being that Jerusalem’s Lot is loosely connected to one of King’s most iconic stories – we can only imagine this adaptation will have an edge the others won’t.
Only time will tell, but a Stephen King series set in the 1850s loaded with gothic horror will no doubt be a great addition to the television landscape.
