The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been expanding in a handful of interesting ways. We’re not only getting a new line of theatrical films for Marvel’s Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but we’ll also be receiving a plethora of new original shows produced for Disney’s streaming service Disney Plus. The amount of Marvel content going into production and being released is relatively limitless. Of course, we’re still waiting to find out the release dates for a variety of projects – including James Gunn’s hotly anticipated sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The film was originally scheduled to be released in May 2020, but the release date for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has since been delayed and there hasn’t been any announcement since as to when.
While fans are still eager for Disney to make an announcement regarding the upcoming Guardians sequel and when we can expect it to open in theaters, Charles Murphy on Twitter suggests he may know the release date. While he explains it is “old info,” which means it could have since changed, we can assume his date isn’t far off from the real thing if it is incorrect. Here’s the date he revealed on Twitter:
“Heard another date for Vol. 3. It’s based off old info, so it’s possible it already changed. I’m not going to put it on the list at this point because people go nuts over that, but it sort of lines up with Karen’s comments the other day, so I figured I would share it.

The date is definitely a long time away – especially when you consider how soon the film was originally scheduled to be released. But given that Marvel has so many other projects in the pipeline, it isn’t that hard of a date to believe. Especially when you consider Disney and Marvel still haven’t made an official announcement as to when it was delayed, which could easily be because it’s still so many years away.
At the very least, however, fans can take solace in the fact that film is happening – with James Gunn directing – and from a screenplay he wrote before he was temporarily fired from Marvel. It’ll be an interesting project to see unfold after production is completely finished for James Gunn’s upcoming DC film The Suicide Squad, so hopefully we get an official Guardians release date announcement from Disney or Marvel soon.
