Microsoft finally made the surprise announcement for their newly revealed Xbox Series X – the next generation Xbox console that was previously rumored as Project Scarlett. Now we know more about the new next generation console, particularly what it looks like, which is both unlike any other current console yet incredibly similar to the modern gaming computer. Yes, this next generation of console gaming is about to get very interesting.
You can see the monolithic Xbox Series X in the new trailer below, which was unveiled during the Game Awards.
It’s also worth showing off the graphics capabilities for the new console, which is quoted as being “four times” more powerful than the traditional Xbox One X. Here’s an example of some incredible looking game footage that was all captured in-engine to show off the new console’s power.
While not much else was revealed, we do know some of the general specs for the console powerhouse, as relayed by The Verge:
“The Xbox Series X will include a custom-designed CPU based on AMD’s Zen 2 and Radeon RDNA architecture. Microsoft is also using an NVMe SSD on Xbox Series X, which promises to boost load times. Xbox Series X will also support 8K gaming, frame rates of up to 120 fps in games, ray tracing, and variable refresh rate support.”
With power like that, it’ll be an incredible sight to see the console in action and what exactly the technology will be like going forward. An exact price and date for the next generation console is yet to be announced, but we can expect more details as we approach the projected Holiday 2020 release date.
