In a surprising new announcement, it’s been revealed that Marvel Television as it’s existed over the past decade will no longer be a thing. Instead, it will now be folded into Marvel Studios under the supervision of Marvel’s own Kevin Feige.
As the transition from Marvel Television into Marvel Studios continues, it’s also been revealed that “at least a dozen” layoffs will go into effect as a result of the change. Meanwhile it appears that Marvel Television’s Jeph Loeb will remain a part of the branch at least until the transition has finished. We also know that the animated Hulu shows and the live-action series Helstrom will reportedly continue as planned, but nothing further will be produced.
Aside from that, it’s also been stated that Marvel Television’s senior Vice President of current programming and production, Karim Zreik, will also make the transition to Marvel Studios. He’s expected to continue overseeing the current projects that are still in development for Marvel Television such as Helstrom.
It’s perhaps not too surprising, however, as Disney Plus essentially renders the old form of Marvel Television a bit useless. This was especially obvious when the Marvel shows over at Netflix were also canceled. But because the branch is merely transitioning over into Marvel Studios, and that Marvel brands will still be adapted to television after the fact, then it’s probably not too much of an issue for fans.
Especially because it’s not that Marvel Television is disappearing, so much as that Kevin Feige will simply have more creative control. And after all, as stated, we will still be getting plenty of new Marvel TV shows over at Disney Plus.
