The hype for adapting Stephen King’s seemingly endless supply of novels and short stories is still going strong. It looks like his novel The Outsider will be receiving an adaptation soon, and the full trailer for the new series based on the book has been released. You can view The Outsider trailer down below.
In the new series titled The Outsider…
“The 10-episode series follows police detective Ralph Anderson (Ben Mendelsohn), as he sets out to investigate the mutilated body of 11-year-old Frankie Peterson found in the Georgia woods. The mysterious circumstances surrounding this horrifying crime leads Ralph, still grieving the recent death of his own son, to bring in unorthodox private investigator Holly Gibney (Cynthia Erivo), whose uncanny abilities he hopes will help explain the unexplainable.”
It’s always a joy getting to see a Stephen King story receive a solid adaptation, so hopefully this new series from HBO does the trick. And considering we’ve had a pretty good year so far with Stephen King adaptations, in particular Doctor Sleep which I’d consider the best adaptation of his work in years, The Outsider sounds like a great way to start off 2020. Again, we just have to hope that HBO knows what they’re doing with the property – although judging by the cast and crew and of course the trailer, there’s a good chance they do. We’ll just have to wait until the show’s premiere to be sure, however.
And if that’s not enough – Stephen King himself called it one of the best adaptations of his work.
“THE OUTSIDER is one of the best adaptations of my work. Hope you’ll watch it.”

The series is set to premiere on HBO January 12, 2020.
