It’s a sad time for fans of Mystery Science Theater 3000, which Netflix had recently revived for a 14 episode eleventh season in 2017 and another six episode twelfth season in 2019. It appears that streaming service Netflix will not be reviving the series for a third season, and that Mystery Science Theater 3000 has been canceled. While it is upsetting news, it’s not the first time the series had gone off the air. Usually the series manages to come back in some new shape or form on another network.
The series’ creator, Joel Hodgson, recently tweeted his response to the series’ cancelation. As he wrote:
“#MST3K is not doing a third season for Netflix. It’s not the end of MST3K, It’s just the end of the first chapter of bringing back MST3K.”
If you didn't see the backer update, I announced today that #MST3K is not doing a third season for Netflix. It's not the end of MST3K, It's just the end of the first chapter of bringing back MST3K.

Jonah Ray Rodrigues, who hosted the two Netflix seasons of MST3K, similarly wrote a response about the cancelation. Here’s what he stated:
“We don’t know what the future holds for the show, it always seemed to figure out how to survive. From Comedy Central to SyFy. Then kept alive by RIFFTRAX & Cinematic Titanic. Whatever happens, I want everybody to know that getting a chance to be on this show was a dream come true.”

The MST3K series has always managed to return for its many fans, and so it’s likely that the show will find a way to return once more in the future. And for what it’s worth, it is nice that Netflix was able to bring back the show for another two seasons in the first place. Hopefully we’ll see what happens as time goes on. And by the sounds of both Joel and Jonah, there’s likely another avenue for the revival to return somewhere else in the future.
