One of the largest streaming services to come out recently has been Disney Plus, which offers content not just from their beloved libraries of work, but also new exclusive projects under banners like Marvel and Star Wars. And although the price for such content is relatively cheap, it looks like people are still eager to work their way around the system. As it turns out, people are selling hacked Disney Plus accounts over the dark web.
According to a new report, there are shockingly thousands of Disney Plus accounts that have been hacked for sale. It appears that these accounts started going on sale mere hours after Disney Plus had first launched.
The report comes from ZDnet and it’s been confirmed by BBC with screenshots of the hacked accounts for sale.
The BBC have been told by Jason Hill, a lead researcher with CyberInt, that these accounts were able to be stolen primarily “because people use the same passwords for different sites.” Jason Hill then elaborated how this makes it easier for hackers, explaining that they “can lift someone’s password from a different site which has previously been hacked and then try it on a new site, like Disney+. If it works, they steal the account.”
“Whilst many may consider having a unique password for each online service to be difficult to manage, password managers simplify this process and allow you to generate and securely store unique difficult-to-guess passwords,” Hill said.
It’s certainly a surprising attack made by hackers, especially when considering the illogical variations in price for the hacked accounts. Nevertheless, hopefully something gets rectified regarding the issue and Disney can make some kind of comment in response to the situation.
