The Insidious franchise has been one of James Wan’s many contributions to the modern state of the horror genre, beginning with Patrick Wilson co-starring in the first Insidious film which Wan directed himself back in 2010. While it wasn’t as popular as The Conjuring is today, nor has it gotten as many sequels as Saw, it still has its own massive fanbase which has been clamoring for an Insidious 5 since the fourth film was released.
Now it looks like star Patrick Wilson – who first worked with The Conjuring director James Wan on the original Insidious – has stated he’s open to another return to the Insidious series. Here’s what Patrick Wilson said about potentially making a comeback in Insidious 5.
“I never look at anything as closed,” Wilson told The Hollywood Reporter in a new interview. “I don’t know what you would do, but I never felt like it was closed. I just felt like for Josh Lambert, we’ve already seen him possessed and free of possession. There’s not a whole lot for that guy to do anymore. I don’t know where they would want to go with the series, but I never close any doors. There’s no big red door that’s closed.”
Of course, he’s revealed that nothing official has been discussed although he’s still very much connection with the key players behind the franchise – Jason Blum, James Wan, and Leigh Whannell.
It’s worth noting that he’s not the only actor in the midst of feeling Insidious 5 slowly coming on the horizon. Actress Lin Shaye also recently stated her feelings towards Insidious 5 which she feels could start production as early as next year:
“The answer is yes. I’ve heard rumblings. There’s no script as far as I know. I kind of have an idea what the story might be about, and that I don’t feel comfortable talking about, because nothing has been brought out into the open. But as far as I’ve heard, there will be another one. And it’ll be sort of a different setup in a way, of some of the same characters from a couple of the past episodes, too. It’s an exciting idea that I’ve heard, but I don’t have any information about it. There’s no script as far as I know yet. And there’s been no date in terms of beginning photography or anything. It’ll probably be in the next year or so, because Blumhouse is a little busy, as we all know. But I’ve got my fingers crossed there will be one more, I hope.”
Hopefully the interest of both Patrick Wilson and Lin Shaye can get the ball moving on Insidious 5. After all, fans of the franchise are probably eager for more seeing how so many other entires are still being produced based on The Conjuring and even Saw.
