One of the most exciting returns to the horror genre in years is director Richard Stanley, who previously directed the two films Hardware and Dust Devil. While his career came to an abrupt halt after that with the production of The Island of Dr. Moreau, Stanley is making a comeback early next year with an adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s Color Out of Space.
Richard Stanley’s adaptation of Color Out of Space, which inspired previous horror films like Die, Monster, Die! and The Curse, will also feature a lead role played by Nicolas Cage. The actor has been finding a new winning streak of roles similar to his success in Mandy, which shares the same producers as Color Out of Space. And because of both Stanley and Cage, the combination makes this a truly exciting film to look out for.
The new trailer in particular is full of crazy moments that should instantly captivate fans of Richard Stanley, Nicolas Cage, and of course H.P. Lovecraft.
In the new film…
After a meteorite lands in the front yard of their farm, Nathan Gardner (Cage) and his family find themselves battling a mutant extraterrestrial organism as it infects their minds and bodies, transforming their quiet rural life into a technicolor nightmare.
As a massive fan of Lovecraft, and this particular story which has continued to inspire authors and readers alike, it’ll be a blast getting to see Richard Stanley’s cinematic interpretation. Obviously it’ll be difficult to capture Lovecraft’s sense of dread, especially while this film looks to portray an unusual amount of quirkiness that only Nicolas Cage could pull off, but hopefully the movie will still be a modern horror flick worth remembering.
Aside from Nicolas Cage, the film also stars Joely Richardson, Madeleine Arthur, Brendan Meyer, Julian Hilliard, Elliot Knight with Q’Orianka Kilcher and Tommy Chong.
Color Out of Space will be released by RLJE Films on January 24, 2020.
