It looks like it’s about time to visit the Wizarding World of Harry Potter once again. After the vastly popular young adult book series was turned into the global phenomenon that spawned an uber successful movie franchise as well as incredible dual coastal theme parks and merchandising galore. Just about everyone on the planet has taken the Hogwarts House Quiz and figured out where they would be sorted (I’m a Gryffindor). Now, J.K. Rowling has kept our fantasies alive with the Fantastic Beasts & Where To Find Them films, which give us a more in depth look into wizarding history and locales. Now, the third film in this franchise is steadily moving forward at WB.
WB has confirmed, via a Deadline exclusive, that several returning actors have signed on for the third film as well as the return of director David Yates. Also confirmed is Rowling partnering with Steve Kloves for the script. Jude Law, Johnny Depp, Eddie Redmayne, Ezra Miller, Alison Sudol, Dan Fogler, and Kathrine Waterson are all returning to further their journey. Yates is set to direct his seventh film of the Potterverse franchise, making him the longest tenured director of the films by far.
What is new that we learned is that the film will be heading to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. While the seven Potter films are classics, they all took place in the United Kingdom. With Fantastic Beasts, the Wizarding World has expanded, visiting New York in the first film, and Paris, France in the second. With Rio being home to the third, it looks like this series will be a more of a globetrotting affair.
There is a lot of pressure on this film, however, as the second movie was underwhelming to most fans. Some even took certain moments as ‘sacrilege’, even though the creator of this fantasy world herself wrote the script. Hopefully, the third film can bring it around, in a ‘Back to the Future III made up for the dismal Back to the Future II’ kind of way.
