Disney Plus plans to interject Marvel shows into the future of the MCU. All of Phase Four has been announced. And we are started to see announcements for Phase Five. But of the immediate future, Hawkeye‘s ground seems a little shaky.
There are the recent and troubling reports of Jeremy Renner. With the drama about his ex-wife, there are rumors that he will be replaced or removed from the show. But according to Independent,
“Despite the claims that Disney considered casting someone else, it’s believed bosses have decided against the idea and will permit Renner to appear in future Marvel films.”
The show is said to adapt Matt Friction’s Hawkeye comic. In which, Clint Barton trains Kate Bishop to carry on the Hawkeye legacy. Hailee Steinfeld was reported to be in talks for the role of Bishop. But her commitment to Apple TV Plus’s Dickenson may get in the way. And from an interview with Variety, their report says,
“When Variety asked, ‘Dickinson’ is your first foray into television, but you actually have another TV series that you’re working on with ‘Hawkeye’…’
Steinfeld interjected, but she didn’t have much to say. ‘That, I don’t know about!’ she said, seemingly caught off guard. ‘I don’t know,’ she repeated. ‘I have no idea what you’re talking about.’”
Reportedly, her contract with Apple has a no-compete clause. And Disney Plus will definitely be competing with Apple TV Plus. However, her A-List status may get her out of that clause.
Avengers: Endgame producer, Trinh Tran, will carry her work over to Hawkeye. She spoke with ComicBook.com about the plot of the show.
“Well, they’re both Hawkeyes in a way, right?… I’m always interested in introducing new characters. And now we have a fascinating young female who is very interested in this role. So you’re going to see a balance of both.”
The weight of the show will carry on both sets of shoulders. There would be no show without Kate Bishop nor Clint Barton. Steinfeld is a famous face for Bishop to wear. But that face isn’t set in stone. Though, Renner has worn Barton’s face for a handful of movies now.
The show will most likely carry Barton’s story from Endgame. Tran continued by discussing how the events of the movie will affect the show.
“I think with Endgame, it’s always going to impact all of the characters that we are introducing in our Disney+ streaming shows as well as the future of features, right, for the characters that are still existing. So you’re just going to have to find… I can’t say much about that!”
Hawkeye is set to stream on Disney Plus in the Fall of 2021. Hopefully, no hiccups will affect that date. For further developments on the show, and the rest of the MCU, Screen Geek will have you covered.
