The Evil Dead and Spider-Man director Sam Raimi continues to be keeping himself busy in the world of Hollywood. He’s not only producing the next upcoming installment in The Grudge franchise, but also has another Evil Dead film he’ll be producing in the works.
However, fans of Raimi have been eager to see him make a return to directing – and thankfully it looks like that’s finally happening. It’s been revealed that Sam Raimi will direct a new horror film from Freddy vs Jason and Friday the 13th (2009) writers Damian Shannon and Mark Swift.
According to THR, the site that brings us this news, there aren’t any specific plot details or even a title yet. But they were able to give us an idea of what kind of film to expect. As they’ve stated:
“Details are being kept far from shore but sources say the project is being described as ‘Misery meets Cast Away’ in tone.”
Sam Raimi himself also made a comment about how excited he was to take on the project.
“I am thrilled to be reunited with Columbia Pictures and re-teaming with Sanford (Panitch, Sony’s motion pictures group president) and Ange (Giannetti),” said Raimi in a statement. “I have been a fan of Shannon and Swift and we have found the perfect adventure to share with the world.”
While there hasn’t been much said about this untitled horror project, it’s immensely exciting to see Sam Raimi direct a horror movie after Drag Me to Hell was released 10 years ago. He previously directed the pilot episode for Ash vs Evil Dead, however, and showed that he still has his precise taste for horror and mayhem.
Stay tuned for more news on the untitled horror project as we get them.
