Many fans of the popular sci-fi anime Cowboy Bebop were interested in seeing Netflix’s live-action adaptation of the series. Now it looks like they’ll have to wait a little longer because star John Cho was unfortunately injured while filming in New Zealand this month. According to Variety, the injury will set the production back anywhere from 7 to 9 months.
The details regarding actor John Cho’s injury have been scarce. While the exact nature of his injury has not yet been revealed, it has been confirmed that he’s back in Los Angeles where he’ll be undergoing surgery. Apparently the incident had something to do while rehearsing a sequence that was not considered a large-scale stunt.
Meanwhile, John Cho is still showing plenty of positivity regarding his situation. He recently took to Instagram and shared a Bruce Lee quote to his fans while thanking them for their kind wishes.
“Water can flow or it can crash.” He then added on with his own message, stating: “Thanks for all the well wishes everyone. Gonna be back and flowing in no time!”

Netflix’s Cowboy Bebop adaptation will consist of 10 episodes adapting the original anime which featured 26 episodes.
John Cho was cast in the lead as Spike Spiegel, while Mustafa Shakir will play Jet Black. Daniella Pineda and Alex Hassell will play Faye Valentine and Vicious, respectively.
Hopefully the halted production won’t have a negative impact on the series, and I’m sure it’ll give the filmmakers involved more time to make sure everything is in proper order. After all, Cowboy Bebop is a pretty popular anime and manga franchise – it’d be a bad move for the streaming platform to mess up their adaptation.
