Avengers: Endgame was indeed the endgame for three Avengers. Both Black Widow and Iron Man died. And Captain America grew old, retiring from his heroics. While these characters we’re handed worthy arcs, and the actors are near the end of their contracts, some fans just can’t leave well enough alone. Who can blame them? The characters were fan favorites for a reason. And so, there are theories that the upcoming Black Widow movie will have parts from modern-day. In such theories, Natasha Romanoff is still alive, leaving her sacrifice in vain. Also, Robert Downey Jr is said to reprise his role one last time in that movie. So another theory suggests that not only did Black Widow die in vain, but Tony Stark is also alive after Endgame.
Reddit is the social media site great for theories. We’ve unearthed several of them from the site. This theory about Stark is brought to you by u/ankitvishwakarma. Before you get your panties in a bunch, listen to what they have to say.
TONY STARK is backed up in form of an A.I. ! Possible proofs from ENDGAME. Endgame’s scene no one noticed.

Their suggestion that Tony Stark uploading himself into an A.I. comes from a couple of recent comics. There’s the ongoing Tony Stark: Iron Man, where Stark is artificial in both mind and body. He goes up against Ultron Pym, another former Avenger that’s similarly artificial. And there’s Ironheart. Riri Williams took over as the new Iron Man. But of course, she’s not a man. Therefore, she’s Ironheart. But a hologram of Stark serves as her companion.
There are talks of Marvel Studios adapting Ironheart for a new legacy of Iron Man in the MCU. But there are also talks of Harley Keener returning and becoming Iron Lad. Seems like this new saga of the MCU will see a handful of legacies continued from the original Avengers. There’s Kate Bishop in Hawkeye. And Scott Lang’s daughter, Cassie, may become the Stature she is in the comics. Also, Scarlet Witch and Vision’s son, Wiccan, may appear in WandaVision.
We thought Robert Downey Jr was done after Avengers: Endgame. But evidently, he’s going to show back up in Black Widow. Though, I’m pretty sure he won’t return for any more appearances. Even if it is for a hologram or a voiceover like Paul Bettany started off as.
But to see if Kevin Feige and company will confirm this in their evergrowing MCU, stay tuned to Screen Geek to find out. In the meantime, you can watch Avengers: Endgame on Digital and Blu-Ray now. And Black Widow will appear in theaters, May 1st, 2020.
