Fans just can’t seem to get enough news on the new Disney/ Sony deal that brings Spider-Man back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It is an overly exciting development, to say the least. But what exactly does this mean for Spidey’s future? While pulling the Wall Crawler out of the MCU was painful at best for fans, the prospect of him joining Venom and Sony’s Spider-verse was at least intriguing. But, with this new deal, is that all off the table for now? If you read into Kevin Feige’s response to the new deal, it may very well not be yet.
The Head of Marvel Studios spoke with Variety about the new merger. And it is quite a lot to take in when you break it all down.
“I am thrilled that Spidey’s journey in the MCU will continue, and I and all of us at Marvel Studios are very excited that we get to keep working on it. Spider-Man is a powerful icon and hero whose story crosses all ages and audiences around the globe. He also happens to be the only hero with the superpower to cross cinematic universes, so as Sony continues to develop their own Spidey-verse you never know what surprises the future might hold.”
The ability to cross cinematic universes? This is pretty telling. It would seem that this new deal brings Spidey back to the MCU, but will still allow him to interact with Sony’s Spider-verse. That means we could still get the long awaited Spidey/Venom crossover. Seeing Tom Holland still interact with the heroes of the MCU as well as Eddie Brock, Morbius, and Madame Web over at Sony will be interesting, enticing, and just down right great for all of us fans of Ole Web Head. Here’s to an amazing and spectacular future!
