Sometimes, to really sell a moment in film, you have to actually go through with it. That’s why some on-screen couples start relationships off-screen. Tom Hiddleston and Chris Hemsworth are one of those couples. Of course, not a romantic couple. But they have become like brothers in real life. After filming Thor together, they reprised their roles in The Avengers. They went on to film together several more times in their history as Thor and Loki. But by their second movie together, there was already a trust bond. In the scene where Thor punches Loki in the face, Hemsworth actually made contact.
Tom Hiddleston recently sat on the talk show couch. In his appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, he discussed his role as Loki. This included details of the upcoming Disney Plus series. He also told Colbert about the scene from the first Avengers movie.
“There was a scene in Avengers where Thor had to strike Loki across the face and I was wearing the horns, which weigh about 30 pounds. I couldn’t really sell the hit, the smack. So I just said to Chris, ‘I think you should just hit me in the face’. It was a terrible idea. I went down like a stone.”
Like I said, there are many moments on film that are actually authentic. Sylvester Stallone talked Michael B. Jordan into taking a hit on the set of Creed. Though, that wasn’t the same kind of hit Seth Rogen talked Kevin Smith in taking on the set of Zack and Miri. However, that’s another example of one of those off-screen blossoming friendships.
Since The Avengers, Loki and Thor’s bond as brothers grew stronger. Loki eventually turned from his villain status. You could even say that by Avengers: Infinity War, he became an anti-hero. Though, Loki and Thor spent most of their time bonding in Thor: The Dark World and Thor: Ragnarok. Sadly, we probably won’t see them on-screen together in the foreseeable future. That doesn’t mean that they’re hanging their suits up. Thor has another chapter in his legacy yet with Thor: Love and Thunder. And it was teased at the end of Avengers: Endgame that he might join Star-Lord and the gang in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. (Star-Lord is also rumored to cameo in Thor: Love and Thunder).
Hiddleston will return to his villain status and play out his character from The Avengers/Avengers: Endgame in his solo series. But there’s yet to be any word of Hiddleston in at least a cameo in Love and Thunder, or Hemsworth on Loki.
Thor: Love and Thunder is expected in theaters on November 5th, 2021. And Loki will available to stream on Disney Plus, sometime in 2021. For more news from Asgard and the rest of the MCU, stay tuned to Screen Geek.
