A new fan theory connects Captain America’s Super Soldier Serum to Thor’s Mjonir. It was an exciting moment when Steve Rogers caught the hammer in Avengers: Endgame. A moment that was built from Avengers: Age of Ultron. The scene right before Ultron first appears, the Avengers are seeing who could lift the hammer. Steve was only able to budge it then, but that was just enough. The theory suggests that Dr. Erskine developed the serum from Asgardian science. If their science created a hammer fueled by worthiness, then modern science could create a soldier from such.
Reddit has been a platform for so many ideas about the MCU lately. Users have posted their theories and rumors of the cinematic universe. Check out what others had to say about the future of the franchise.
Reddit user, The Lazer Shell, developed this theory about the Super Soldier Serum.
The secret ingredient to the Super Soldier Serum is being “Worthy” from r/FanTheories
They say that their theory is “paper thin,” but there was quite a bit of thought that backed this up. Suggested is that Dr. Erskrine’s serum results from his work with Red Skull. The once-villain-turned-Stone-guardian was obsessed with the “magic” of the gods. And when he used the serum on himself, it brought out the man inside. Stanley Tucci’s Erskine said that the formula may not have been ready, but neither was the man.
“My serum did not fail. It did…exactly what I designed it to do. It enhances…what is already within. It is Herr Schmidt…who has failed…at being human.”
Therefore, he insisted on finding a subject, not of physical greatest, but of psychological. The poster says they were inspired by the similarities between the worthiness of Thor and Cap’s humility.
They also mention an unwritten Venn Diagram of those who can possess Mjolnir and success with the Super Soldier Serum. I’d like to point out that the MCU’s version of the Hulk was created by an attempt at the serum. Inspired by Mark Millar’s Ultimates, Dr. Banner was hired to recreate a Super Soldier like the one that was lost in the ice. Instead of the Gamma radiation from the original story, Banner used his serum on himself and became the Hulk. Then, Emil Blonksy used it and became Abomination. Whether created by Erskine or Banner, the Super Soldier Serum was still only successful on one. And so, Banner may be a “good guy,” but he still isn’t as worthy as Steve Rogers.
All the movies of the MCU, and their shows, can be streamed on Disney Plus when it is available for everyone on November 12th, 2019. If you don’t own them already, you can watch Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger, and Incredible Hulk again, and find these similarities for yourself.
