With the immense impact that the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first three phases made on pop culture, it was hard for many to imagine that the studio could possibly keep the train going without rehashing what has already happened. It would seem that Marvel put all of that to rest when they announced their Phase 4 lineup at SDCC. It’s hard to pick out what moment to be most excited for coming up, whether it’s The Eternals and their cosmic adventures, Dr. Strange taking a trek into madness, or the Disney+ streaming series. But, there is one film that looks to make huge waves, and that’s Thor: Love and Thunder.
This will mark the first hero to get a fourth solo film, as the God of Thunder is back. It will also mark the return of Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, but in a much bigger, and more powerful role. It was announced at Hall H that Jane will wield Mjolnir and become The Mighty Thor. But, if she is now Thor, what of Odinson? Turns out, returning director, Taika Waititi spoke with EW and laid down the law on exactly what to expect.
“[Jane] is Thor. There’s still the other Thor, the original Thor. She’s not called Female Thor. In the comics, she’s called The Mighty Thor. It comes from that comic run. I couldn’t be more happy and excited.”
There you have it. There will be two Thors, and the movie will be based, at least in part, and the highly successful ‘Mighty Thor’ run in the comics. Add to that that the new ‘King’ of Asgard is going to be looking for her Queen, and this movie looks to be another amazing home run from Waititi, just like Thor: Ragnarok. Look for the 4th Thor film to hit theaters November of 2021.
