Fans were hit with what can arguably be the most devastating blow in the history in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and this one is all too real. Sony and Disney have unceremoniously ended their partnership over the use of Spider-Man, and he is no longer part of the MCU. Fans are immensely upset, and divided over who to blame. Now, the next Spidey film is up in the air, but here is what might have been in Spider-Man 3.
CinemaBlend went back to a previous Kevin Feige interview that looked at the MCU plan for the next solo film for the Wall Crawler.
“It’ll be fun to see Spidey back in his element, out of the shadow of Tony, out of the shadow of the other Avengers, as his own man now, as his own hero,” Feige said when asked how the franchise will move forward following Far From Home’s shocking mid-credits scene. “And yet now facing his own challenges that aren’t coming from Avengers fighting, like [Captain America: Civil War], or aliens coming, like [Avengers: Infinity War] or [Avengers: Endgame]. It’s all Peter focused and Peter based. The how and the when and the specifics can change and evolve, but setting yourself up for something that has never been done before… at the end of Iron Man, it was a hero publicly outing himself so that in the next movies and all subsequent movies, we couldn’t fall back on the secret identity trope which had been part of Iron Man’s story for decades in the comics. And now people know Peter’s identity. People now think he’s a villain, Mysterio plays one last trick on him and succeeds… [so that] means everything’s different. Where it goes, we’ll see. But it’s exciting that it once again sets us up for a Peter Parker story that has never been done before on film.”
This would have definitely made for an interesting take on the character and his growth. Peter has been semi reliant on others along his journey. Now, faced with his greatest threat of his identity being exposed, he would have to handle this on his own. But, we may never see this. There is still a chance that a deal could be made, but as it stands, Sony is taking the character in a different direction. Only time will tell at this point.
