News of the sequel for the widely successful Black Panther movie has been almost non-existent. Ryan Coogler is set to return as writer and director of Black Panther 2 and there have been unfounded rumors that certain characters are expected to make an appearance. Marvel tends to keep their information on their MCU movies close to the chest but that hasn’t stopped fans from speculating on what will happen next. It seems like more speculation has popped up on the possibility of Namor making an appearance in the sequel and who might be cast in the role.
Marvel Studios’ Phase 5 has already been set in stone. The announcement of the next set of shows and movies set in the MCU was the biggest news to come out of this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. We haven’t heard any official news on what movies to expect in Phase 5 but that doesn’t have stopped heroes—not yet announced—to pop up in the movies set in Phase 4.
Rumor has it from the folks over at Lords of The Lunch Box have stated the Namor might show up in Black Panther 2 and that actor Dwayne Johnson is eyeing the role. The group also claims that Johnson is “pissed that DC has lowered the budget on his Black Adam movie”.
There have also been claims that the actor is in deep talks with Kevin Fiege and that the announcement of Johnson playing Namor is expected at this year’s D23.
Honestly, it seems like a far fetched that there is any validity to this story. Johnson has been giving constant updates on his Black Adam movie and the character has been teased in WB’s Shazaam. The actor is a big heavy hitter in Hollywood but given that Marvel Studios has a certain way of running their show, I don’t think Johnson’s ego is small enough for the role.
It’s a rumor with little to no logical source to the story – so, take it as you will.
