Who here has seen Event Horizon? The film directed by Paul WS Anderson—no, not that Anderson—was a sci-fi horror movie that scared the crap out of many folks back in 1997. The film still carries a strong fanbase among horror enthusiast that hope that the original uncut version will see the light of day. This horror film is a personal favorite of mine—Anderson’s only good movie—and the folks over here at ScreenGeek are giddy to let you know that Amazon Studios is set to make a series of the horror movie.
A little about the movie:
When the Event Horizon, a spacecraft that vanished years earlier, suddenly reappears, a team is dispatched to investigate the ship. Accompanied by the Event Horizon’s creator, William Weir (Sam Neill), the crew of the Lewis and Clark, led by Capt. Miller (Laurence Fishburne), begins to explore the seemingly abandoned vessel. However, it soon becomes evident that something sinister resides in its corridors, and that the horrors that befell the Event Horizon’s previous journey are still present.
Got it? Good.
Variety reports that Amazon and Paramount Television are developing a series version of the movie and will have Adam Wingard set to produce and direct. Wingard’s directing credit includes the 2012 horror anthology movie, VHS, 2014’s The Guest, and recently 2016’s Blair Witch movie. He’s also set to produce Legendry’s Godzilla Vs. King Kong movie that will hit theaters next year.
No word on where the show will end up exclusively but our money is on Amazon Prime. The streaming service has had a big hit with their show The Boys and Amazon is looking to be a serious contender in the impending streaming wars. Hopefully, the show will scare audience members like the film did over two decades ago.
