Black Widow was really the only film we had any real information on in terms of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase Four. The prequel film will explore more of Black Widow’s solo adventures, as well as introduce a long sought after villain by fans. Now, thanks to the Hall H Panel at SDCC, we know for certain it’s release date.

The film will officially kick off Phase 4 on May 1st, 2020. This was already suspected, but now it’s official. We look forward to what is to come in the prequel that will have major implications on the MCU. And, thanks to the sizzle reel shown, we also got confirmation that TASKMASTER is the main villain! So long as he survives this film (seemingly set just before Infinity War), he could cause waves in the MCU for years!
For those of you unaware of who Taskmaster is, he is a metahuman with the ability to instantly memorize and mimic the fighting styles of anyone he sees. Over time, he came to mimic the styles of Spider-Man, Wolverine, Captain America, and more. He even carries a shield to use just like Cap does. He creates a major issue for many heroes, which is why he is one of the most sought after mercenaries in Marvel.
Another thing we should mention is that, even though most of the film will be taking place in the timeframe between the end of Civil War and the beginning of Infinity War, we may be getting the infamous Budapest moment. The sizzle reel distinctly showed a title card with said title. Now, Budapest may just be the working title for the film, a nod to a MCU inside joke, but we can’t be certain of that, either.
The fun is just getting started with the MCU, as it looks to blow away all expectations and take it all to the next level.
