From surprise cameos to setting up the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the movie certainly has not disappointed. What it has also done is answer some questions of how normal people would react to the events of Infinity War and Endgame. But, with these new revelations comes more questions and those questions have fans debating over the answers.
SPOILERS AHEAD FOR SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME!
One of the main points of contention is the name given to the ‘Snap’ or ‘Decimation’ by normal folks how lived through it. It would seem, at least in the world of Midtown High, the high school Peter Parker attends. As revealed in the opening school news program, they refer to these events as the ‘Blip’. Later on, Peter has to endure the plane ride to Europe next to his teacher, Mr. Harrington, who talks about his wife and the ‘Blip’. This has caused some controversy amongst Marvel fans as to if this slightly ridiculous word is the new name for what actually happened or not.
Kevin Feige recently revealed the answer when speaking to Fandango, stating:
“It came pretty fast. We always referred to it as the Blip, and then the public started referring to it as the Snap. We think it’s funny when high school kids just call this horrific, universe-changing event the Blip.”
He added:
“We’ve narrowed it down to, the Snap is when everybody disappeared at the end of Infinity War. The Blip is when everybody returned at the end of Endgame…and that is how we have narrowed in on the definitions.”
One fan took to Reddit to try and clarify the issue even more:
Clarifying confusion regarding in-universe terminology for the Snap from r/marvelstudios
So, there are a few issues here. One, it speaks as if the multiverse issue is still a thing. However, we found out that the multiverse was made up as part of Mysterio’s fake backstory to endear himself to Nick Fury. Also, this theory (not ‘definition’ as it makes itself out to be) unravels when it talks about Mr. Harrington’s wife. See, this theory claims that ‘Blip’ only stands for the return of those lost from Thanos’ snap, but when it tries to use the wife as an example, she used the ‘Blip’ to fake being snapped away and to run off with another man, abandoning Mr. Harrington. That would mean the ‘Blip’ word describes the ‘Decimation’ along with their return.
Fortunately for this fan, even though they contradicted themselves, Feige has indirectly agreed with their initial thought. But, hey, even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then.
