Fans are really loving Spider-Man: Far From Home. It’s breaking box office records and has people excited over the epilogue to the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s ‘Infinity Saga’ as well what the future of the MCU has in store. Lots of revelations came out from the fallout of Avengers: Endgame, some of them being things we didn’t even really consider. Life on Earth after such drastic and tumultuous events on a global scale are not easy to move on from. But, even with half of the universe reappearing after 5 years, not everyone survived.
MINOR SPOILERS FOR SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME!
In the very beginning of the film, an ‘In Memorium’ segment is played on Peter Parker’s high school morning show. Of course, Tony Stark is shown, as well as Black Widow, but another face pops up that throws some fans off. Captain America is also thought to be dead after the events of Endgame. This actually makes perfect sense, though. Certainly the time travel element would not be made public for all the world to know (security reasons, mainly, Can’t let anyone evil know that they figured out time travel).
So, the public would not know of the plan for Cap to go back in time and return the Infinity Stones, nor his decision to stay behind and live his life with Peggy Carter. So, all they know is that Cap is gone. Most likely, a cover story of his ‘loss in battle’ was put out by government.
The public repercussions of Cap’s decision was something just about no fan really thought about. By going back and staying behind, he eliminated the Cap the public knew and loved from existence. Now, it’ll be up to Falcon to fill some pretty big shoes, and he may have a hard time winning over the public, at least at first. This adds another dynamic to Sam taking up the shield.
