The last of the fallen Marvel Netflix shows have premiered this month. Jessica Jones’s third season will be the last time we see anything new of the character—at least for a while—and Kristen Ritter has hinted that she might be done as well. Disney’s streaming service, Disney +, is looking to take over the small screen department of Marvel Studios but some are still wondering if we’ll see The Defenders as we know them to return. However, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige might have just stoked the fires for fans of those shows and characters.
We can all agree that once the deal between Marvel and Disney went south, ads for the latest or last seasons of Netflix’s Marvel shows had dried up. The hype use to be huge whenever a new Marvel show was about to hit, but many people had moved on before these shows were even cancelled. Although Daredevil Season 3 was a critical darling, the same wasn’t really shared for the other shows after the first season. Yet, Kevin Feige himself still sees the potential of these characters and that could spell out some huge news about the Defenders soon.
While speaking to BET on the Spider-Man: Far from Home press tour, Feige was asked a question regarding whether fans of the Defenders can expect to see them again. In pure Feige fashion, the man gives a non-answer:
“I don’t know. There were a lot of great characters that were on those Netflix series, and I think there is a period of time…it’ll be a while before we could use any of them based on what the contracts were, so I’m not sure.”
What’s interesting enough is what he followed it up with:
“And also, even answering that question is a spoiler. But there are some great Marvel characters there.”
Marvel Studios loves to keep their ideas close to the chest and very tight. There has been a rumor that Disney/Marvel is not allowed to use the characters for at least a couple of years. I doubt that rumor will slow down Disney/Marvel’s plan for what they have in mind for their Defenders.
