The era of the original Avengers has come to an end in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Iron Man and Black Widow sacrificed their lives to save the universe, Hulk has learned to embrace the man and the monster, Thor has learned to live for himself and moved onto new adventures off world, Hawkeye has finally retired for real to be with his family, and Captain America got to actually live his life. But, at the end of Avengers: Endgame, when we see Old Man Rogers, there are some questions as to exactly what happened when he traveled back to be with Peggy Carter. Well, Chris Evans, himself, was asked exactly what went down, but his answer may not please everyone.
During a panel at the ACE Comic Con Seattle, Evans was asked what exactly happened when Steve went back in time in Avengers: Endgame. He answered the best way he could.
“You know, I’m not sure I can give you those answers. That’s weak as shit, but ask the writers. Look, I understand there’s a lot of things you can question about the time continuity but if there’s one thing I’ve learned about working with Marvel, they don’t leave stones unturned. They really don’t.”
First off, LANGUAGE! But, in all seriousness, it really is up to the writers on how to fill the negative space, especially in a moment such as this. It is still a heavily debated topic amongst fans, and with no clear winner, we may never get a real answer. And, it doesn’t help that even the writers are leaving it up to interpretation. So, at the end of the day, it really is up to what you feel works best.
