Netflix’s The Haunting of Hill House was a major success for all parties involved. As would be expected, a second season was announced, appropriately titled The Haunting of Bly Manor. While the first season focused on author Shirley Jackson’s titular novel, the second season will instead adapt Henry James’s Turn of the Screw. Now it appears that actress Victoria Pedretti from the first season will take on a new character in the lead role for Bly Manor.
Pedretti will be playing a governess named Dani, who is looking after two orphans within an isolated country mansion. She did an excellent job as Nell in the first season of the series, given it was her first major role, so it’s exciting to see her get a chance with another character. She definitely has a lot of emotional range and given these supernatural circumstances, she should certainly have plenty of opportunities to show it.
While we don’t know if any other cast members will be returning, it would make sense if they did for the anthology format. After all, the series American Horror Story consistently reuses cast members as new characters every season.
Either way Mike Flanagan is sure to make a gripping and excellent twist of the material just as he did for the show’s adaptation of Hill House. As he continues to direct works like the upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s Doctor Sleep, it only proves that he’ll have the skills to do some awesome things within the horror genre.
Season 2 of The Haunting of Hill House in The Haunting of Bly Manor will premiere on Netflix next year in 2020.
