Well, it would seem that everyone and their brother are having their names thrown into the giant rumor mill that is the new Marvel Cinematic Universe casting for iconic X-Men mutant, Wolverine. Several people have been named as ‘frontrunners’ for the role, such as Daniel Ratcliffe, Scott Eastwood, Tom Hardy, Keanu Reeves, Jason Mamoa, and even the return of Hugh Jackman. Now, a new name has been added to the list, Kingsman star, Taron Egerton. But, is this for real?
Most of these rumors are coming from a ‘highly reliable source’ who only seems to speak to one site, We Got This Covered. It seems a little strange that this site suddenly has an inside track at Marvel, especially when a year ago they had nothing of the sort. But, this name drop is at least interesting and worth reporting, AS A RUMOR. Taron Egerton is an up and coming actor who has really shown his chops thus far. And, considering that the X-Men won’t be joining the MCU for at least five more years, according to Kevin Feige, Taron will have plenty of time to hone his craft and mature into a stronger candidate for the role of the feral Canuck.
It should also be noted that Egerton himself has expressed interest in playing the part, and that could be the basis for these rumors.
As always, we need to handle these rumors with a grain of salt. But, Egerton could be a dark horse choice, similar to the casting of Chris Evans as Captain America, that would end up blowing away all expectations. While we haven’t really seen him in a role that required the savageness that comes along with Logan, that doesn’t mean he couldn’t handle the role. And, his size lends much more to the comic accurate look of the character, which Marvel is big on. But, whomever Marvel chooses, fans should rest assured that they will make the right choice, even if it seems weird at first.
