Ruben Fleischer’s Venom was released last year and following its box office success fans started preparing themselves for a second instalment. Despite this, things on the Venom front went quiet for a while, until now. Sony have now confirmed that Tom Hardy will indeed be returning to his role as Eddie Brock in Venom 2.
In an interview with Fandango, producer Amy Pascal was asked about a new Venom movie to which she replied:
“I can say that Tom Hardy will be back, magnificently playing that character as no one else can.”
When asked about the success of the first movie, the producer gave the actor more praise for how he performed as the character. She said:
“It’s a couple of things. One of them is that Sony did a great job creating that franchise and giving it a life and giving it its own world. Then there’s Tom Hardy. When you think of Venom, you’ll never be able to think of anyone but Tom Hardy sitting in that bathtub of lobsters. And once you saw Tom Hardy do this character, that’s all you needed to know.”
When the producer was asked whether we can expect to see Venom and Spider-Man meet on screen in the future, she said “Everybody would love to see that. You never know someday… it might happen.” In fact, it seems quite possible that we might see Tom Holland’s incarnation of the character appear in a future Venom movie, the producer had this to say about the actor: “We have big plans for Tom Holland to be a part of everything.”
Although Venom wasn’t a big hit with critics, fans were certainly impressed. Details about the next installment are still being kept under wraps but at least we know, unsurprisingly, that Tom Hardy will be returning.
