Spider-Man: Far From Home is about to hit theaters and fans are super excited to see the epilogue to Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as well as what the future holds in Phase 4. The main point of contention amongst fans, however, has been the deal between Marvel and Sony. Sony still owns the rights to Spider-Man and his supporting characters, but Marvel is able to use Spidey in the MCU. Does that mean that the Wall Crawler will never get to interact with the Sony Spider-Verse that they have recently established with Venom?
Kevin Feige has weighed in on it all.
Talking with CinemaBlend, Feige discusses the chances of Spider-Man showing up in the Venom sequel.
“I think probably it’s up to Sony. Sony has both those characters and, has Venom in their world. I don’t know what their plans are for another Venom or if they’re doing that. But it seems likely at some point.”
To be clear, the MCU has access to Spidey, but the ultimate decision rests on Sony, who still own the rights. So, if we’re going to get the crossover that fans are craving, it all rests on the shoulders of Sony. While the Venom movie had heavily mixed reviews, it did make a ton of money at the box office and set up it’s sequel beautifully with a Carnage post credits scene. And, considering the maniacal nature of the villain, it may require a team up of sorts to take him down.
At this point, the ball is in Sony’s court, and we’ll just have to wait til they decide on what they’re doing.
