Ghostbusters is a classic that we all know and love, but despite its popularity the 1989 sequel and 2016 reboot were a dissapointment. Now, we’re finally getting a third instalment of the original franchise and Sigourney Weaver has confirmed her own involvement, and hinted at some exciting casting news.
Ghostbusters 3 has Jason Reitman, son of the director of the first 2 movies, in the directors chair who co-wrote the script with Gil Kenan. It was previously confirmed that the movie will star Finn Wolfhard, McKenna Grace and Carrie Coon. Following an interview with Parade, we can now confirm that Sigourney Weaver will be reprising her role as Dana Barrett – A cellist that finds herself being spooked by a demon called zulu and so calls on the Ghostbusters. Although the actress didn’t reveal any details concerning the plot, she did imply that Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd will be returning to their roles, she said “It’s going to be crazy working with the guys again!”
Ernie Hudson has not yet been mentioned in relation to casting but he did meet with the director to discuss the upcoming movie and congratulate him on it. Although at the time the actor hadn’t been approached about reprising his role at least we know there is a dialogue between the pair about the project, and we can hope that he will be rejoining his co-stars as Winston Zeddemore in the new movie.
Ghostbusters 3 is reported to follow a group of teenagers that embark on the business of ghost-busting in the present time. Let’s just hope that it does better than the sequel and reboot. If the cast is anything to go by then the film should be a great success, but we will have to wait and see.
