Following in the footsteps of Adam Robitel’s Escape Room that was released at the start of the year, another upcoming horror movie is jumping on the Escape Room themed bandwagon. Play or Die will be the next addition to the genre and is based on the bestselling novel Puzzle by Franck Thilliez. The movie is going to be released digitally next month.
Samuel Goldwyn Films shared a recut of the trailer that you can watch below:
In Play or Die…
Welcome to Paranoia, the ultimate escape game. Rule #1: Nothing is real. Rule #2: One of you will die. Lucas and Chloe, two passionate gamers, decide to participate to Paranoia, a very exclusive escape game. After solving a first riddle, they make it to the location of the finale in an abandoned mental hospital, lost in a frightening forest. There, four other participants are waiting on them. They soon realize that only one of them will get out of there alive.
Directed and produced by by Jacques Kluger and produced by Nexus, and Nadia Khamlichi & Gilles Waterkeyn, the movie stars Charley Palmer, Roxane Mesquida, Marie Zabukovec, Thomas Mustin, and Igor Van Dessel. Based on the novel by Franck Thilliez that sold 330,00o copies, the film is co-written by Amiel Bartana.
Although Escape Room got mixed reviews from fans and critics it was bursting with franchise potential and a sequel is due to be released in August next year. I would not be surprised to see more movies following a similar premise being released in the future, especially if Play or Die is well received by fans.
Play or Die will be released on digital platforms on July 2.
