When you have such an extensive connected film universe like the Marvel Cinematic Universe, sometimes characters can get lost in the massive interwoven story. Especially when you consider that nothing like this has ever even been attempted, at least not to this scale. The MCU contains a cornucopia of characters that have appeared over the course of 22 films. Some of them were seemingly one-offs, but that may not be the case.
Kevin Feige participated in a Reddit Q&A and was asked about “forgotten” characters.
“I’m not sure I’d call them forgotten characters, but I love bringing back characters people think they’ve seen the last of. For example, General Ross and Harley.”
General Ross made his first appearance in The Incredible Hulk, but has since appeared in Civil War, Infinity War, and Endgame. Harley was the boy that helped Tony Stark in Iron Man 3, who eagle eyed fans saw during the funeral scene in Endgame. But what about some of the others? Abomination, Justin Hammer, Baron Zemo, and The Leader all made appearances, but haven’t been heard of since their first appearances.
Could we maybe get a Ross-led Thunderbolts movie? Possibly, but many may view this as just Marvel’s version of the Suicide Squad and may not be on board. However, it does seem like Feige has plans of some kind for them, even if it’s just in an Easter Egg type capacity.
Fans have been asking about these characters, but, in reality, are they really needed? Besides Zemo, none of these characters made that much of an impact, and with the new direction the MCU is going and the new characters they’re bringing in, some of these characters should maybe just stay buried like they are now.
