As we’ve already learned before the release of Avengers: Endgame, the climactic MCU film will mark not only the end of Phase 3 but one major difference from all its predecessors – there is not any kind of post credits scene. However, the film does include one final tease after the credits have finished rolling. It’s a subtle sound effect that brings to mind the very beginning of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the first movie to truly set the stage for Earth’s mightiest heroes.
While all past Marvel films utilize their post credits sequences to emphasize the future of the MCU and their upcoming films, this movie uses its ending sound effect quite differently. It reminds the viewer of the beginning of Marvel – and truly brings the franchise full circle.
Spoilers follow!
The sound effect comes directly from the first MCU movie that was released in 2008 – Iron Man. In particular, the sound effect is lifted from the scene where Tony Stark is building his very first Iron Man suit from a cave in Afghanistan. It’s essentially the scene that signifies the origin of the first MCU hero – and that means a whole lot after going through and watching Endgame.
It’s a truly emotional moment, especially given Iron Man’s role in Endgame and the conclusive death of his character.
In Avengers: Endgame…
Adrift in space with no food or water, Tony Stark sends a message to Pepper Potts as his oxygen supply starts to dwindle. Meanwhile, the remaining Avengers — Thor, Black Widow, Captain America and Bruce Banner — must figure out a way to bring back their vanquished allies for an epic showdown with Thanos — the evil demigod who decimated the planet and the universe.
The MCU movie is currently playing everywhere.
