As we rapidly approach the release of the most anticipated film of all time, Avengers: Endgame, fans are starting to look to the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. One of the issues with the future is that many fan favorite characters are most likely not making it out of Endgame. It is believed that the fourth Avengers movie will usher the end of Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk and Thor. However, a new rumor may have both Thor and Hulk sticking around a little longer in Thor 4.
Tessa Thompson, who plays Valkyrie, the breakout star of Thor: Ragnarok, recently had an interview in which she had some comments that will give hope for the future of the franchise.
While she spoke on many things about her character and the MCU, the most interesting quote with The LA Times had to do with the future of her character, specifically in the Thor franchise.
“I heard that a pitch has happened for [another “Thor” film]. I don’t know how real that intel is, but I hear that the pitch has happened. I think the idea is Taika [Waititi, who directed ‘Ragnarok’] would come back.”
This is great news, albeit a rumor, for fans, as they felt that Thor didn’t really come into his own until the third film in his solo adventures.
While some rumors have Chris Hemsworth being done with the MCU after Endgame, he has expressed a want to further explore this new iteration of the God of Thunder.
While speaking with Yahoo News, the actor said:
“I’d play this character for as long as anyone would let me. I’ve loved it so much. But the combination of this many characters in this Phase Three, as Marvel calls it, you’ll never have this interaction with this many people again. Who knows what the future holds and whether they do prequels and sequels or whatever, I’d be open to anything. But right now, this is where we finish up.”
Also, considering Hulk’s importance in Ragnarok and the fact that a solo Hulk film is almost impossible (due to distribution rights still being at Universal), seeing these two heroes buddying up again would be fantastic.
While Kevin Feige has expressed some major changes in the future of the MCU and a new set of characters to come our way, fans feel that Thor’s story is really only begun, as has Hulk’s. We would all love to see where the character can really go now, so a fourth Thor movie would be well received.
We’ll see Thor next in Avengers: Endgame on April 26th.
