The Marvel Cinematic Universe isn’t the only connected film world looking ahead to the future. Sony Pictures, on the heels of the box office success of last year’s Venom, is pushing forward with their Spider-Man-less (for now) Spider-verse. A sequel is already set for the symbiotic anti-hero, as well as a sequel and a spin off to the Academy Award winning animated masterpiece, Into the Spider-verse, we’ve also got projects on board like Black Cat, Silver Sable, Nightwatch, Kraven the Hunter, Silk, and more. The next one that will hit theaters, however, will be Morbius, starring Jared Leto.
Now, we’ve got our first glimpse at the title character.
Over on Instagram, Leto himself shared an image of Michael Morbius standing stoically in a busy city street. Now, this image seems to be pre transformation into the Living Vampire. Leto looks like a distraught man possibly at the end of his rope, so this may represent a man about to go to whatever lengths are necessary.
The film is in production now, but little is known of the project and where exactly it’s heading. The character himself is interesting, if not slightly obscure in the annuls of Spidey-lore. Another anti-hero, in a sense, Morbius stradles that line of hero and villain, having been both ally and foe to the Wall Crawler.
Whether we see a cameo from Ole Web Head in this film remains to be seen, but don’t count on it. While Sony has made fleeting comments about Peter Parker possibly showing up at some point, it seems that this co-op deal with Marvel has Spidey pretty busy for the next few years.
