Child’s Play has seen big news recently. Mark Hamill will be the new voice of Chucky in the upcoming film that will release May of next year. However, if you think you’ve heard that version of Chucky somewhere but can’t put your finger on it, I might be able to help with that. Hamill voiced Chucky during season one, episode 4 of Robot Chicken in 2005. It was the 10th segment of the episode, which was titled “Plastic Buffet”.
Some people have already connected the news with the old episode, going to YouTube to post comments about immediately going to the old episode after hearing the news. One such user, rckblzr12, wrote:
“Who else came here after hearing Mark Hamill is voicing Chucky in the remake?”
Whatever 111 exclaimed:
“Who would have know that 14 years after this happened that Mark Hamill would voice Chucky in a remake of Child’s Play?! I am so fucking happy right now”
Most of the comments in that post have been excited and positive about the news.
Mark Hamill gave fans a video message at WonderCon in Anaheim, California on Saturday afternoon at one of the panel discussions. The internet has been on fire ever since.
The original Chucky voice actor, Brad Dourif, will not be returning for the film, and while that’s sad news to hear, it’s great to have Mark Hamill on board.
Actress Aubrey Plaza who plays the mother of the little boy in the movie talked about it a couple of months ago, saying:
“I can’t reveal too much. We’re not supposed to talk about Chucky. It builds for Karen in a way that I’m interacting with Chucky by the end, but I’m mostly dealing with my son – who I almost believe is behind the mayhem. The horror of it all will be for the audience. For me, it’s more of a psychological thriller.”
The film’s synopsis states:
A single mother and her young son must fight for their lives when a sinister Buddi doll seems to take on a life of its own.
Child’s Play hits theaters on June 21st.
