April is finally here, meaning Marvel fans are just that much closer to finally getting to see Avengers: Endgame. As the culmination of an eleven-year build-up, the anticipation surrounding this film is certainly significant. With that being the case, it’s no surprise that box office projections are already predicting a record-breaking debut.
According to Deadline, Avengers: Endgame will be opening now on April 24th, two days before its worldwide release. With that now being case, Deadline currently is projecting a new record for a worldwide box office debut.
It also means that if Endgame were to perform on par with Infinity War — and note these are unadjusted numbers — it would be looking at an $840M worldwide opening to blast Iron Man and the gang past the all-time record they set in 2018.
It’s no shock that Endgame will open big at the box office, but it’s crazy to think that it’s opening weekend alone will nearly equal a billion dollars. As far as the film’s domestic debut, I have no doubt that Endgame can top Infinity War‘s 257 million dollar debut, but the question is by how much?
Could Avengers: Endgame be the first domestic film to ever open with 300 million dollars? It sounds crazy to think about, but on paper, it seems like a potential reality. I would more conservatively project an opening around 275 million dollars, but if reviews and word of mouth are strong, I would not be shocked to see the film reach uncharted territory.
In the movie:
Adrift in space with no food or water, Tony Stark sends a message to Pepper Potts as his oxygen supply starts to dwindle. Meanwhile, the remaining Avengers — Thor, Black Widow, Captain America and Bruce Banner — must figure out a way to bring back their vanquished allies for an epic showdown with Thanos — the evil demigod who decimated the planet and the universe.
Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26th.
