‘The Convent’ Trailer Promises Supernatural Scares

    By Jacob DresslerMarch 28, 2019
    The Convent

Paul Hyett is becoming a common name in the indie horror market. He previously directed a unique horror movie in 2015 titled Howl, placing a passenger train in a very dangerous situation – one concerning a bloodthirsty werewolf. Now he’s back to introduce another horror film to the everlasting genre. This time the movie is titled The Convent.

It’s a supernatural horror film, starring cult film icons like Michael Ironside (Total Recall) and Clare Higgins (Hellraiser), alongside actress Hannah Arterton (Walking on Sunshine). It previously had its world premiere at the London Frightfest under the title Heretiks.

    In the film…

“In the early 17th century, innocent young Persephone is falsely accused and put on trial for her life. Her fate seems sealed except for the timely intervention of the mysterious Reverend Mother offering her not just sanctuary, but hope. The Reverend Mother is the self-appointed leader of a small religious retreat, a secluded Priory, where her fellow Sisters devote their lives to the Lord and seek atonement for their pasts. But upon arrival, Persephone is plagued with terrifying visions and soon realizes that it’s not salvation that awaits but a battle for her very soul itself.”

Hopefully the film lives up to the expectations presented by its cast and trailer. The director himself should bring plenty to the table, as he’s also a fairly-popular special effects makeup artist. His makeup credits include The Woman in Black, Attack the Block, and even both of the super popular The Descent films. After having a resume like that, there should be something interesting to gain from The Convent whether it’s a decent film or not.

The Convent hits VOD platforms and limited theaters on May 3, 2019.
