As Avengers: Endgame rapidly approaches it’s highly anticipated release, the emotional toil of the end of an era is starting to set in. Fans are trying to prepare themselves for many of their long time favorites to hang up their tights and move on from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. One of the biggest (assumed) departures is coming from the perennial Avenger, Captain America. Chris Evans’ contract is now up with this film, and it’s all but set that he is done playing Steve Rogers on screen.
Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Chris Evans comments on what he remembers from the last days of shooting the MCU’s Phase 3 Finale.
“Getting emotional on the last day of filming. It was surprisingly emotional.”
Evans didn’t leave the production with just tears, though. He was able to get some souvenirs as keepsakes from the decade long experience.
“They gave me the shield. They gave me the cowl. I’m gonna ask for the full suit. I never ask for the full suit. Hemsworth got the full suit. I want the full suit.”
Looking back on his whole career as Cap, Evans also talked about his favorite scene to shoot.
“I’m partial to that fight scene in the elevator (in Captain America: The Winter Soldier). That was the first scene we shot in the second Captain America movie. That was my first time working with the Russos. It was the first time where it felt like Cap was kind of on his own. The first Cap movie, you really felt like everybody was holding my hand, and the first Avengers movie, I just did my best to not get in the way. The second Cap movie is the one where I kind of really felt, I suppose, pressure. And that elevator fight scene came out really great in my opinion.”
This film will be bittersweet for many fans. Whilst we will get the culmination of over a decade of storytelling, many of our favorites will be leaving. Along with Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, and Mark Ruffalo are all expected to exit the franchise. We’re sure that this movie will give them the proper send-off that they deserve.
