The first official photo from the set of Jumanji 3 was released on Tuesday, reuniting the cast in what appears to be the exact same location that’s in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. Karen Gillan, Kevin Hart, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Jack Black are back in their avatar forms from the reboot. The last the audience saw, the teens inhabiting these characters had returned to the real world and became friends all Breakfast Club-style.

The Rock posted the photo on his personal Instagram with the caption “yes, your favorite band is back, lookin’ lean (ish) and mean. Even though things may not be as they seem. So, buckle up world because soon we’ll all play when a brand-new Jumanji drops this Holiday! Oh, the fun you’re gonna have. Love, The Smoldering Dr. Bravestone. #NewAdventuresAwait #TheGameThatPlaysYou #Jumanji This Christmas.”
Sony announced that Jumanji 3 had started filming last month and this is the first look fans have been able to see. Rushing through production, the new movie is expected the be a reunion of sorts for the teens who got sucked into the game in the 2017 film.
Rising star Awkwafina (Ocean’s 8, Crazy Rich Asians) is joining the cast with Nick Jonas set to return (and hopefully Fred Hanks). Danny Devito (Dumbo, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) and Danny Glover (Lethal Weapon, Sorry to Bother You) will also be starring in mystery roles. Jake Kasdan is returning to direct the film after the Welcome to the Jungle grossed $962 million at the box office in 2017.
Not much is known about the new film, but it can be assumed that the original teens are sucked back into the game as different avatars or new characters are introduced and the film rehashes the plot of the first film
Jumanji 3 opens on Dec 13, 2019.
